Presentation - Doctoral School Life Science Complexity - ED515

Description illustration de l'article About the Doctoral School

The Complexité du Vivant Doctoral School has Sorbonne University (SU) as its supporting institution, and it has been co-accredited with Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) since July 2015. It is supported by approximately 160 hosting teams of more than 300 researchers and faculty members who have accreditation to supervise research (HDRs). These teams are located across several sites, the main ones of which are: the Jussieu Campus, the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève (École Normale Supérieure, Institut Curie, IBPC), the Institut Pasteur, the campus Pitié-Salpêtrière, the Institut Du Fer À Moulin, and the SU Marine Biology stations. The Doctoral School’s scope encompasses most of the disciplines associated with living organisms, including genetics and genomics, biochemistry and molecular biology, cell biology and developmental biology, microbiology and immunology, bioinformatics and evolution. The DS teams use a wide variety of model organisms, while a large number of the projects carried out subscribe to an “integrative” approach that combines multiple approaches with various levels of analysis. In this way, the DS fosters interdisciplinary relationships and networking between the various research hubs in the Paris region. As the DS considers the supervision quality of prime importance, a maximum of three PhD candidates per thesis supervisor has been set. A thesis supervisor is a researcher or faculty member with HDR or equivalent accreditation, or holding special permission to supervise doctoral research issued by the SU  (contact the DS director for more information).
All doctoral students at the DS must indicate the institution where they are registered for their doctorate on all their publications, irrespective of the means of funding or their host laboratory. This indication of affiliation must follow the institution’s signature rules (SU signature rules; PSL signature rules).
